The Role of Technology In The Evolution Of Communication
I have the opportunity to research how technology has changed the work of communicators and influenced the training they need to keep up with the demand. In my research, I stumbled across a Forbes article written by former contributing Consumer Tech writer Sol Rogers. Rogers presented incredible insight into the role of technology in the evolution of communication. One idea Rogers presents in the article is that humanity has always been in a constant
state of evolution in interacting with one another. Highlighting for
example, how technology has caused the digital methods of doing things, to
supersede nearly all other forms of communication used in the communication and
business world.
In addressing how digital methods of doing things have nearly superseded all other forms of communication used in the business world, Rogers excellently explains how technology and culture have changed with modern media. One way technology and culture have changed with modern media can be seen in the gradual
evolution from the household phone to the mobile phone, and then eventually to the smartphone. After reading this article, I have come to conclude that the evolution of communication will be continuous due to technology. Examples of how technology continues to impact us all can be exhibited with things we are quite familiar with NOW but were not as familiar with say maybe three to five years ago. Technology such as the internet, email, wearable technology (apple watches, Fitbit, etc.), virtual reality, and
now 5G. Rogers believes that technology will forever impact communicators and
our society as there will always be a need for faster and consistent
communication, and I agree.
